You only need to attend your assigned day for tryouts, you tryout day was emailed to you at the email provided when you registered your student on RMA. If you cannot make the day you are assigned, please let Coach Rouiller know so he can change it. Please wear athletic attire and bring your own baseball equipment. Coach highly recommends that you wear cleats or shoes with treads since the field is dirt.
If you have any questions please contact Coach Rouiller at email link below. If you are interested in helping coach this year, please let us know; we can really use the help, but due to school rules you must be approved by the SJUSD to coach. I look forward to seeing everyone at tryouts.
This year we are going to only have one team at a Junior level; which, is going to consist of 18 players - 13 starters, and 5 reserve players. We have not broken down which players are starters or reserves. This is a slight change from previous years where we had 2 teams at the same level and we were able to move players back and forth between the teams. We will field 13 players for every game, and if any starters have missed practices (with exceptions) or are unable to make the game we will use the reserve players. Based on previous years I expect that all of the reserve players will get playing time.

Athletes are encouraged to attend all three tryout days, but this is not mandatory. Be advised, we are looking at a large tryout group again this year, so chances to impress, while be seen by one of the coaching staff may require attending all three tryout days for best chances of success. Remember to bring water and wear soccer appropriate athletic attire.
The 2022 BH Soccer Team consists of 11 players and 4 substitutes for a total of 15 players. We will also take 3 six/seven graders who show promise for following year to train with the team but would not be eligible to play games. In all 18 players to one coach plus my assistant/s will make up this year’s boys team.
Finally Coach Mike wants to emphasize that BH Boys Soccer is highly competitive, players chosen are often already playing for local soccer clubs. Individual skill with a soccer ball is critical, it lets coaching staff focus training on team tactics/moving from offense to defense as a group instead of teaching individual trap and pass skills. So if your student athlete is daily training with tools like the Techne App (iphone/android) or youtube channel 'AllAttack' or training with local coaches and they adore soccer then such work will pay off, the player will be noticed by coaching staff during tryouts. If not I can provide you with other resources to enjoy soccer at all levels of play.
BH Boys team calendar (training and games) can be found here.

Tennis: (League starts March 27th, but practices start before then and league ends by May 12th or earlier.)
The format for the upcoming Bret Harte Tennis Season... We currently have around 150 players with completed registrations to tryout for the Tennis Team. This is unprecedented and would make Bret Harte among the largest tennis programs in the nation for both Middle and High Schools, which is pretty awesome. To accommodate this number of players, the coach will have to be creative with the format of the team. The coach will offer more details after tryouts happen, to ensure the number of players we have, but the basic idea will be the following: the top 40 players will be split into 2 competitive traveling teams, and the remaining players will be placed into a league that will compete against other teams within the school (teams of roughly 4-5 players). Again, more details about the team structure will come after tryouts.
All dates and times will be at Bret Harte Middle School Tennis Courts. Bring a racquet, athletic attire, and water. All tryout days will last approximately 1.5 hours but can be very short or longer depending on results.
8th Grade: Wednesday, 3/1 at 3:20-5pm
7th Grade: Thursday 3/2 3:20-5:00
6th Grade: Friday 3/3 3:20-5:00
Monday, 3/6 at 3:30 - Call backs to determine placements within the top 40
Tuesday, 3/7 at 3:30 - Last round of call backs to determine top 20 and top 40
Wednesday, 3/8 at 3:30 - Assuming we have the numbers we think we do, this will be the day we hold the Bret Harte Tennis League Draft. This will be similar to the NBA/NFL drafts where we do a team-forming day led by the coach to get the teams in the league settled.
Team practices and leagues will officially start the following week, 3/13.
If you have any questions about the upcoming team, please feel free to reach out to the coach via the e-mail below. Coach is a full-time Professional Tennis Coach and runs several programs, so apologies for any delays in communication. If you have any questions that are particularly urgent or time sensitive, you can find Coach at the Bret Harte Tennis Courts any day after school from 3:20-4:50 and ask him in person.
