  • Baseball:

    • Thursday, September 1st and Friday, September 2nd from 3:30 p.m. Meet after school on the Bret Harte Baseball field closest to the tennis courts. You only need to attend your assigned day for tryouts, you tryout day was emailed to you at the email provided when you registered your student on RMA. If you cannot make the day you are assigned, please let Coach Rouiller know so he can change it. Please wear athletic attire and bring your own baseball equipment. Coach highly recommends that you wear cleats or shoes with treads since the field is dirt. Also, it is very important that you have completed everything on RegisterMyAthlete; otherwise, your player will not be able to try out.

Some parents have contacted me about having everything completed but it is not showing completed; you can either contact the school about having fixed or show me proof before tryouts.

If you have any questions please contact Coach Rouiller at email link below. If you are interested in helping coach this year, please let us know; we can really use the help, but due to school rules you must be approved by the SJUSD to coach. I look forward to seeing everyone at tryouts.

This year we are going to only have one team at a Junior level; which, is going to consist of 18 players - 13 starters, and 5 reserve players.  We have not broken down which players are starters or reserves.  This is a slight change from previous years where we had 2 teams at the same level and we were able to move players back and forth between the teams.  We will field 13 players for every game, and if any starters have missed practices (with exceptions) or are unable to make the game we will use the reserve players.  Based on previous years I expect that all of the reserve players will get playing time.

  • Cheer:

    • All athletes must fill out the packet in full before tryouts. They can be found in the Bret Harte office or you may print here. (Please note that the packet references dates from the end of the last school year but still has relevant information about the cheer program for this year and the questions are needed for the September tryouts.)

    • For the 2022-2023 school year, Thursday, September 29th & Friday, September 30th at 3:30 - 5:30pm in the cafeteria. Athletes must attend both tryout days, bring water, wear athletic clothing and shoes, and bring the completed Cheer Packet found at the link above to the first day of tryouts. If you have any questions, email Coach Corrinne. (Note: Tryouts are only for incoming 6th grade, new 7th and 8th graders. Tryouts for all others were held at the end of the last school year.)

Season 2 (October - December):

  • Girls Basketball:

    • 6th/7th Grade: Monday, October 10th, Tuesday, October 11th, and Wednesday, October 12th from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Meet in the BH Gym.

Athletes must attend all tryout days unless arrangements have been made with the coach prior to tryouts. Remember to bring water and wear basketball appropriate athletic attire. There is no need to bring a basketball.

  • 8th Grade: Monday, October 10th through Friday, October 14th from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Meet in the BH Gym.

Athletes must attend all tryout days unless arrangements have been made with the coach prior to tryouts. Remember to bring water and wear basketball appropriate attire. There is no need to bring a basketball.

Team A basketball practices will be held Monday through Friday from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the BH Gym and the season ends November 28th.

  • Boys Soccer:

    • Monday, October 10th, Tuesday, October 11th, and Wednesday, October 12th from 4:30-6 p.m. - Bret Harte Field (behind the pool deck).

Athletes are encouraged to attend all three tryout days, but this is not mandatory. Be advised, we are looking at a large tryout group again this year, so chances to impress, while be seen by one of the coaching staff may require attending all three tryout days for best chances of success. Remember to bring water and wear soccer appropriate athletic attire.

The 2022 BH Soccer Team consists of 11 players and 4 substitutes for a total of 15 players. We will also take 3 six/seven graders who show promise for following year to train with the team but would not be eligible to play games. In all 18 players to one coach plus my assistant/s will make up this year’s boys team.

Finally Coach Mike wants to emphasize that BH Boys Soccer is highly competitive, players chosen are often already playing for local soccer clubs. Individual skill with a soccer ball is critical, it lets coaching staff focus training on team tactics/moving from offense to defense as a group instead of teaching individual trap and pass skills. So if your student athlete is daily training with tools like the Techne App (iphone/android) or youtube channel 'AllAttack' or training with local coaches and they adore soccer then such work will pay off, the player will be noticed by coaching staff during tryouts. If not I can provide you with other resources to enjoy soccer at all levels of play.

BH Boys team calendar (training and games) can be found here.

  • Wrestling:

    • Tryouts/practices will be held all week Monday, October 10th through Friday, October 14th from 3:45 to 5:15pm in the mat room. Athletes need to wear athletic clothing without pockets and wrestling shoes if available (otherwise athletic shoes are permissible). Bring water and don’t eat two hours before tryouts/practice. If you have any questions, email coach.
